Our proposal for the supplementary construction of the old Domus in Tampere raises the student apartment buildings by two wooden floors. The additional floors offer a solution with significantly lower emissions than demolition and new construction. The raised apartment building masses complete the cityscape of Kaleva's lamella houses. Openings on the street floor will be returned to large floor-to-ceiling windows, which support the operation of the common spaces and enliven the street space. The old, cramped cell apartments are transformed into functional and modern two-room apartments, which are supplemented with studio apartments in the new floors. The heart of the building is the large community spaces where student life can flourish.
