Sara Hildén Art Museum
Open International Architecture Competition
shared 3rd prize
Our proposal Obscura won a shared third place in the international architecture competition ↗, which included 472 proposals ↗. Obscura develops a new temporal layer in the brick-red industrial landscape of Tammerkoski, and its recognizable contemporary wooden architecture connects it to its surroundings. Thoughtful massing preserves essential sightlines and returns the southern edge of Finlayson's garden back to the living area of the people of Tampere. The park is reunited with the pedestrian center. Museum circulation is unique and experiential and is complemented by a functional museum yard. Low-carbon wooden architecture acts as a proud layer of cultural heritage on the road to a more sustainable tomorrow and the built environment.
